Alan Neigher has been a principal in his Westport firm (formerly known as Byelas & Neigher) since 1980.  A graduate of Colby College and Boston College Law School, he specializes in media, entertainment, first amendment and trade regulation law.  He has been honored with an AV (highest) Martindale-Hubbell rating, and is listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers (first amendment) as well as The Best Lawyers in America, Connecticut Super Lawyers (intellectual property) and New England Super Lawyers (entertainment and sports).

Mr. Neigher taught a course in Communications Law at U.B. Law School from 1977-1985.  He has served as a member of the adjunct faculty of Fairfield University, where he taught a course in law and ethics. He has appeared on Lou Dobbs’ nightly broadcast on CNN, and has been a guest on WNPR Radio with Faith Middleton.  In January 2011, he was appointed to the Connecticut Judicial Media and Law Committee by Chief Justice Chase Rogers.

Mr. Neigher’s media clients have included NBC Universal, THE CONNECTICUT POST, THE HARTFORD COURANT, CABLEVISION NEWS 12, CONNECTICUT MAGAZINE, WTNH-Channel 8 (New Haven), WVIT-CHANNEL 30 (Hartford), RHODE ISLAND MONTHLY, THE YALE ALUMNI MAGAZINE and Brooks  Newspapers.  His online news clients include The New Haven Independent and The Daily Nutmeg.  He is libel counsel to New Horizon Press, a non-fiction book publisher in Far Hills, New Jersey.  He defends libel, privacy, copyright and tort claims on behalf of several insurance companies.  He has extensive experience in representing news organizations in access, FOIA and newsroom subpoena cases.  Mr. Neigher represents numerous published authors of fiction and non-fiction books, and has represented a number of film producers.
